Julien Pidancier / violin

Based in Strasbourg, Julien Pidancier began studying classical violin in the at the age of six. After exploring jazz through the guitar and bass during his teenage years, he discovered the expressive sound of Stéphane Grappelli, and fell in love with it instantly.

He later immersed himself in Alsace’s rich Sinti musical community, learning gypsy jazz in a spontaneous way, while studying jazz and oriental music at the Strasbourg Conservatory.

Faithful to the elegance of Stéphane Grappelli, he developed his own distinctive sound, blending a clear, classical violin tone and a strong sense of swing with broader modern jazz influences.

Over the years, he has travelled throughout Europe, performing at festivals, leading masterclasses and collaborating with numerous musicians from the gypsy jazz scene, including Marcel Loeffler, Amati Schmitt, Adrien Marco among others. His musical curiosity extends well beyond gypsy jazz, encompassing tango, Hungarian and Romanian music (Amaro-Dji Trio), Western Swing (Moonlight Stompers) Hispanic and Oriental influences (Aguila Mozaik) or jazz fusion (Ensemble Djiben)…
