TIM KLIPHUIS
Tim Kliphuis is one of the best-known improvising violinists in the world. His award-winning brand of high-octane gypsy jazz and classical mash-ups has taken him to America, Europe, Brazil, Russia, the UK and South Africa. Tim has shared the stage with Les Paul, Richard Galliano and Stochelo Rosenberg.
Tim was part of Fapy Lafertin’s band for 5 years and since has toured and recorded with most top Sinti guitarists: Mozes Rosenberg, Gismo Graf, Serge Krieff, Paulus Schäfer, Dorado and Samson Schmitt.
With his Trio, Tim regularly works with symphony orchestras, bringing Stéphane Grappelli’s jazz violin tradition to a wider audience. They accompanied the Dutch Royal Family on the recent State visit to Sweden, and also kicked off the United Nations Water Summit.
Kliphuis is Professor of String Improvisation at the Conservatoire of Amsterdam and gives masterclasses at competitions and festivals worldwide. His two books on Gypsy Jazz Violin are Mel Bay best-sellers.
In recognition of his boundary-crossing approach to music, Kliphuis was awarded the Scottish International Jazz Award, the South African Woordfees Trophy and the Polish International Jazz Prize.
